The day started as planned, with the exception of me having a Jeep.
Yup, between working out-of-town, the late dinner because I worked late,
and the wine I did not get the Jeep fixed.  So, Randy let me ride with
him.  We were joined in Bakersfield by White Cherokee (sorry totally
lost the names, except for Eddy [one of the tots], Gene, Mike Cavanaugh
and his friend, Jack and Joe, and Sherri (driver) and Erik.  At Jawbone
we met up with Mike and his friend, both from Tehachapi, who later
captured a couple camping at Jawbone and were out playing.
We left Jawbone about 9:05, with clear skies and a slight breeze.  You
should know that both canyons have changed dramatically with Last Chance
below the mine now a foot or two less deep now.  Most of the rock has
disappeared, with a few exceptions.
Nightmare has changed most, with new undercuts quite evident and a
couple of new collapses blocking the easier routes.  If you remember the
pool of water which was always to be crossed, it is gone.  The next
storm will do more damage, due to the huge parts of the canyon which
have collapsed.
At any rate, rather than driving to the end of the Canyon, we exited up
the rock pile and crossed to the Talc Mine for lunch.  We then dropped
into Last Chance and started towards Burro-Schmidt, using the crest
trail above the tunnel rather than the road.  Back to Jawbone by about 5
PM, having had various people peel off along the way and heading to 14
sooner.  The final group was the original six who began in Bakersfield,
with us Airing up together and hitting the road at various times.
Good Job to Sherrie and Eric, who completed their first run (ever).
